Mrs. Mary Foster of Truro Dies

Pioneer Woman Came To Madison County Before The Civil War

Mary Alice Swearingen Foster, one of Madison county's oldest residents died at her home in Truro, Thursday, June 30, at the age of 95 years.

Mrs. Foster had lived 94 and one half years of her life in Madison county. She was born in Buchanan county, Missouri, on October 25, 1859 and came to Madison county as a baby, before the Civil War. She was the former Mary Alice Swearingen, daughter of Thomas and Sarah Swearingen. She was married on October 16, 1879, at her parents' home near Truro, to James T. Creger. His death occured on Feb 5, 1922. In 1924 she was married to George Foster, whose death occured in 1943. She was a member of the Woman's Relief corps and the Truro Methodist church.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Euphemia J. Robinson and Mrs. J. F. Reed, Sr; two sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Sesnon of San Jose, California and Mrs. Mabel Lill of Bellingham, Washington; five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Funeral services were held from the Truro Methodist church, Saturday, conducted by the Rev. Clarence Moore of Blockton and the Rev. Walter Schilling of Truro. Burial was made in the Young Cemetery.
