JAMES M. FITZGERALD

Rev. James Martin Fitzgerald was born in Michigan Aug. 22, 1858 and moved with his parents to Taylor county, Iowa, when a small boy. He was united in matrimony to Miss Zilpha Estella Savage, May 3, 1877. To this union eleven children were born, of which two preceded him in infancy.

He was converted at the age of 25 and united with the Christian church. In the spring of 1911 he was so impressed with a call to preach that he with a part of his good family started out in evangelistic work and was the means of much good. In the fall of 1913 the Des Moines Christian conference licensed him to preach, and until his health failed him, he proved faithful in pastoring some of his neighboring churches.

Mr. Fitzgerald departed this life on April 12, 1918,at 10 p.m., leaving a wife, five daughters: Mrs. Edith Jones of Murray, Mrs. Bessie Fulmer of Des Moines, Mrs. Beadie Abbott of Sioux City, Mayme and Velma of Omaha; four sons: Charles, Ed and Fred of Truro and John of Alberta, Canada, nine grandchildren and two sisters, besides a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his loss.

Everything that loving hands and tender care could do was done for him, but the Master saw fit to call him to a better world, where there will be no more sickness and sorrows. The funeral services were conducted at the Christian church Sunday at 2:30 p.m., by the Rev. A. D. White, assisted by the pastor, J. William Garrett. The remains were laid to rest in the Hartman cemetery.
