Joseph Dowler died at his home near St. Charles of dropsy, on Thursday morning, Nov. 30th, Mr. Joseph Dowler, aged 74 years and 22 days. He was born Nov. 8th, 1819, in Washington county, Pennsylvania. Married Martha G. Roberts, of the same county and state, Nov. 28th, 1846. He came to Madison county in 1865 where he lived till his time of death.

He has been a member of the church for over thirty years and of the M. E. church eight years. During the last two years of his life, he seemed to be wholly consecrated to the Lord, and talked a great deal about dying and his readiness to go.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. W. C. Smith at the M. E. church at Hanley, after which he was laid to rest in the St. Charles cemetery.

He leaves a wife, four sons and five daughters. Four children preceded him to the land of rest. The bereaved family have the sympathy of all their many friends.
