RICHARD B. JENKINS,

Richard B. Jenkins of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, formerly of Bondurant, Iowa, passed away on Friday, March 13, 2015. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, March 19h at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines, Iowa.

Born in West Des Moines on July 31, 1936, Richard graduated from West Des Moines High School. Following graduation he joined the Des Moines Fire Department and retired in 1994 as Captain after having served for 34 years. In addition, he was a member of the National Guard for 22 years and worked for many years as a stage hand, including the movies Bridges of Madison County and Twister.

Richard had many interests. He loved animals and trained Labradors for many years. He was founder and past president of the Mid-Iowa Retrievers Club.

Following retirement, Richard and his wife, Janet, re-located to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. During retirement he enjoyed woodworking, playing golf, and traveling. He was a past president of the R.V. Roadrunners Club and founder of ROMEO (Retired Old Men Eating Out) club.

Richard is survived by his wife, Janet, daughter Carol and son Richard, both of Des Moines, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Alice Jenkins.

Memorials may be directed to the Christ of the Hills United Methodist Church, Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, or Penn Center Methodist Church in Earlham Iowa.
