The family of Mr. J. B. Wilson, of Jefferson township, has been suddenly and unexpectedly called to mourn the loss of their eldest child, a girl about 13 years old.

On Sunday evening, August 16th, she went out to find the cows, and while hunting for them through the brush skirting "Coon River," was bitten on the ankle by a rattlesnake. Wild with alarm and the pain of the wound, the poor girl ran a mile to the residence of Mr. M. E. Wright, where she fell from exhaustion. Mr. Wright hastily mounted a horse, and taking the girl in his arms, carried her to the residence of her parents, where everything that the best medical skill and thoughtful friends could do, was done for her, but with no avail. She lingered in great agony until Thursday evening when she died. The doctors say that on account of the exertion in running so far, the poison had circulated her entire system, and the alcohol given could take no effect. The afflicted family have the sympathy of the entire community in their sudden bereavement.
