Brief Mention -

Mrs. B. F. Orris, mother of Ed and Emory Orris died at her home on West Court Avenue, Sunday, aged nearly 72 years.

Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon conducted by her pastor, Rev. Wilbur ReQua.

Obituary of Mrs. B. F. Orris -

N. J. Walker was born in Switzerland county, Pennsylvania, June 17, 1836. She moved with her parents to Washington county, Iowa in 1856. She was married to B. F. Orris August 7, 1856. They resided in Washington county from 1856 to 1868 at which time they moved to Webster township, this county where they lived until retiring from the farm to live in Winterset a few years ago.

She was converted and united with the Methodist church when twelve years of age. She has always maintained a consistent, loyal, faithful christian life, abundant in good works, serving her Lord with conscience fidelity.

Eight children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Orris, three died in infancy and five, with her husband survive the mother. Two of her brothers survive, one living in Keokuk, Iowa and one in California.

The Orris family is well known throughout the county. The two sons, Ed and Emory have for years been dealing largely in live stock. A few years ago they bought of A. B. Shriver one of the best farms in the county, known as the Bruce farm, where they have since resided.

The three daughters are Kate, who married Mr. Coats Wilson, and lives in Winterset, Laura, who married William Krell, resided in Des Moines and Nellie, the wife of Elmer Orris of Webster Township. Two brothers of B. F. Orris, Levi and Reuben reside in Winterset.

Mrs. Orris has been in feeble health for some time and has been confined to the house since Thanksgiving day. She was taken to the home of her sons some time ago thinking the change would be of benefit to her. About two weeks ago she was brought back to her home on Court Avenue where she continued to fail till last Sunday morning when she passed away.

Mrs. Orris was the daughter of a pioneer Methodist preacher and for several years when her husband was engaged in the ministry performed all the duties and underwent all the sacrifices falling to the lot of a pioneer's pastor's wife.

She was a teacher in the Methodist Sunday school in Winterset and President of the Woman's Foreign War Missionary Society. She was a woman richly endowed with natural talents all of which she used to the glory of God and the good of mankind.

Aaron Orris and W. P. Krell and three sons of Des Moines came down Monday to attend Mrs. Orris's funeral.

She has always maintained a consistent, loyal, faithful Christian life, abundant in good works, serving her Lord with conscientious fidelity.

Eight children were born to mother and sister Orris. Three died in infancy and five are living; three daughters and two sons. Two of her brothers survive her, one living in Keokuk, Ia., and one in California.

Mrs. Orris was a rare Christian character, and a lady much loved by all who knew her for her gentle, loving nature and purity of heart. She will be greatly missed by the devoted family and a large circle of friends.
