Sudden Death of an Old Citizen

Dennis Drake, one of the oldest citizens of the county, fell in the road last Saturday and died almost instantly from an attack of apoplexy. He had left his home twelve miles west of the city to come to town and walked on ahead of the carriage which was to overtake him and in which he was to ride. Not being overtaken as soon as he expected he had walked five or six miles in company with another man, apparently alright, when without any warning he fell to the ground, expiring almost instantly.

Mr. Drake was in his eightieth year but unusually rugged for a man of his age. The long walk, which he did not seem to mind, was too much for him however.

He was a man highly respected by all who knew him. His wife died about a year and a half ago.
