SHIRLEY ELIZABETH LEED, Oakland,

Shirley Elizabeth Leed, the daughter of Adolph and Blance (McCowen) Zobrist, was born January 1, 1922 in Hancock, Iowa. She died March 2, 2015 at Winterset Care Center South in Winterset, Iowa. She was 93 years, 2 months and 1 day old.

Shirley attended school in Hancock, Iowa and graduated with the class of 1938. After graduating she worked at Hancock Telephone Company as a switch board operator.

On December 21, 1940 she was united in marriage to Norman Leed at Hancock United Methodist Church. They lived in Council Bluffs for several years before moving to Walnut and then to Hancock. After retiring, she lived in Hancock enjoying gardening and her grandchildren.

Shirley was a 60 year member of the Hancock United Methodist Church. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, quilting, and taking all her grandchildren to the park in Hancock for many walks. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and always tried to be present at all their school events.

She was preceded in death by her husband Norman Leed, son Michael Leed, grandson Scott King and her parents.

She is survived by her daughters, Phyllis King and her husband Lawrence of Emerson, Ia and Kathy Fay of Winterset, Ia; grandchildren Stephen King and wife Dawn of Emerson, Ia, Kristi Niemann and husband Michael of Columbus, NE, Spencer King and wife Danielle of Bucyrus, OH, Amber Leed-Kelly and husband Brian of Omaha, NE, Ryan Leed and wife Julie of Ida Grove, IA, Roger Butler-Borruat and wife Dominique of Dexter, MI, Kerri Waller and husband Jayson of Winterset, Ia and Kasey Fay of Winterset, Ia; twenty-two great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A memorial graveside service will be held at 11:30 am, Thursday, March 5, 2015 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Hancock, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to Hancock United Methodist Church or Winterset Care Center South.
