Mrs. Mattie Mitchell Jennings died at her home in Adel on Friday, December 27. Mrs. Jennings fell in her home on the 16th of August and fractured her hip from which she never recovered. She was at the Iowa Methodist hospital for some time following the accident but was finally returned to her home.
Mattie Richards was born in Roanoke, Indiana in 1852. She came to Iowa when she was eleven years old and when seventeen married William Mitchell. They lived on the old Mitchell homestead south of Van Meter until Mr. Mitchell's death in 1894.
Ten children were born to the union, eight of whom survived. Caroline died at four years of age and Mary at fifteen. In 1918 Mrs. Mitchell married William H Jennings and lived thirteen years in Lincoln, Nebraska until Mr. Jennings death. Since then she has made her home in Adel.
She is survived by six sons, Holland of De Soto, George of Mission, Texas, Ward of Crawfordsville, Indiana, Lloyd, Golden and Truman of Adel, two daughters, Mrs. Inez Roland of Norwalk, and Mrs. Edith Trindle of Van Meter, 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services was held at the Methodist church in Adel Sunday afternoon conducted by the pastor Rev. Warren. Burial was in the Adel Cemetery.
