CHARLIE EDWARD PINEGAR, Des Moines

Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ came and took Charlie by the hand and led him to his eternal home. He died at home of cancer on January 9, 2015 at the age of 86. Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM Tuesday January 13, 2015 at Hope Lutheran Church 3857 East 42nd Street, Des Moines, IA 50317. Burial will follow at Berwick Cemetery.

Charlie Edward Pinegar was born on April 9, 1928 to Wilbur and Clara Pinegar, the 4th of 10 children. He was a true east sider, born and raised. Attended Cutis Elementary, Amos Hiatt and East High School before joining the United States Marines at the age of 17. He proudly served most of his time in China. After an honorable discharge he came home, met and married Maurine Richard at Easton Heights EUB Church on E. 38th St . They bought their first home on E 38th St.After a few years in Madison County they returned to buy their second home on N.E. 38th St where they lived for 57 years. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. A longtime member of Hope Lutheran Church of Des Moines.

He was a member of the Teamsters Local and had been employed by Bruce Motor Freight, Mid American Freight Lines and retired from Color Converting Inc.

He enjoyed helping others and was a terrific square dancer. He took great pride in his family, home and yard. He also enjoyed working with stained glass. He was a cub master for the cub scouts and a boy scout leader. He also served as a volunteer fireman for the Delaware Township Fire Department.
He is survived by his loving wife Maurine, sons Patrick (Penny) of Omaha, Paul of Urbandale, daughters Gail Carton of Urbandale and Jill (Alan) Wheeler of Ankeny. 12 grandchildren, 16 great- grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.Brothers , Joe (Viola) Russell (Jane) sister Clara Hodges of Tacoma Wa., sister in law Beckey, brothers in law: John Waagan of Tacoma, WA, Richard O'Brien of Des Moines. Many nieces and nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Wilbur Jr., Alfred, Albert, Larry and sisters Rosemary O'Brien and Barbara Waagan, sister in laws Marthalee, Dorothy, Edith and brother in law Dick Hodges.

We want to thank Unity Point Hospice for the excellent care they gave Charlie for the past 18 months.

The family will receive friends Monday January 12, 2015 from 5-7:00 pm at Iles Grandview Park Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Lutheran Church. Online condolences are welcome at www.IlesCares.com .
