Laraine “Raine” Merrifield, 72, of Winterset, died Wednesday, December 24, 2014 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.

A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday, December 28, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset where the family will be present to receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday December 29, at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset, with burial to immediately follow in the Van Meter Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Laraine’s family.

Laraine Rae Shull, daughter of Ray and Jewel (Davis) Shull, was born September 22, 1942 in Des Moines. She attended East High School and graduated in the class of 1961.

Laraine was united in marriage to Robert Merrifield June 26, 1965 at the Eastern Place Methodist Church in Des Moines. Two sons, Chuck and Rick, were born to this union. Laraine worked for the State of Iowa as a clerk for nearly 35 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, VFW Auxiliary, Winterset Kiwanis, and the Winterset Square Dancers. Laraine was very active in her community, enjoyed to go camping with her family and friends especially at the cabin in Minnesota, but most of all she cherished the time she was able to spend with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Laraine is survived by her sons Chuck (Bethany) Merrifield of Patterson, IA, Rick (Sabrina) Merrifield of Marysville, CA; five grandchildren, Stephanie, Blake, Darion, Sierra, Jordan; three great grandchildren, Hunter, Beau, Kayleigh; brother Darrell Shull of Des Moines, IA; nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents and husband Bob.
