To the friends and neighbors it was a great shock when they heard of the death of Isabelle Foster, who in the quiet hush of the Sabbath evening of August 4th, slipped so quietly away.

Although she had been in failing health for some time, those who cared for her, and knew her condition, apprehended no immediate danger.

If she realized the targets that sickness was making on her bodily strength, out of her supreme unselfishness, she withheld the knowledge from those she loved so well.

Little did we realize how soon she would be called to follow the ones she helped to care for so long and uncomplainingly.

Isabelle Hodson was born into the home of Cary and Susan Hodson, September 11, 1861, near Westboro, Clinton County, Ohio. When but eight years of age she came with her parents to a farm near Earlham, Iowa, where she grew to young womanhood. At the death of her father, she with her younger sisters Cora and Hattie set up a home in Dexter where they lived for about eight years, afterward removing to Earlham, where they build their present home.

While living in Dexter she was converted and united with the Methodist Church under the pastorate of Rev. John Wright, in which church, she has continued a faithful and conscience member until she was called to join the church triumphant. Not only was she a consistent member but a faithful worker in the church she loved so well. She loved all the services of the church, but she took a special interest in the Woman’s Freedom Missionary Society.

She was united in marriage to Rollin M. Foster July 20, 1898. To this union were born twin children who died in infancy. During their married life, they lived in Oskaloosa, ------, and Pleasantville, Iowa, then moved to Earlham where they resided until the death of Mr. Foster, February 26, 1924. Since that time she has lived with her sister Hattie, in the old home, and assisted in caring for the invalid sister Cora, who passed away May 7, 1929.

She leaves to mourn her loss, a sister, Hattie, three half sisters in Indiana, a step-son Merle A. Foster of the Philippine Islands, and a niece, Mrs. Roy Fry. Besides these near relatives, there are many others, and a host of friends who mourn her departure.

Funeral services for the deceased were held Tuesday afternoon in the Methodist Church with Rev. R. A. Thomas of Panora officiating. Interment was in Earlham Cemetery.
