Earlham Echo
Earlham, Iowa
Thursday, May 9, 1929In the quietness of a spring night another voyager left the home, passing beyond our horizon to the shore of the great eternity.
The life of Cora Hodson was begun in the home of Carey and Susan Hodson, in Clinton County, Ohio, September 5, 1863. When a small child she came with her parents to Dallas County, a few miles north of Earlham. Here she grew to womanhood. Then she came with her sisters to the present home in Earlham.
At the age of twelve, when visiting an aunt in Van Meter, she accepted Christ as her Redeemer. She loved to read the Bible, reading it through several times and committed to memory many chapters.
Though handicapped from childhood by frailty of body and much physical suffering she was patient, cheery, helpful and kind, appreciative of her friendships—remembering friends with birthday greetings and gifts even when her body was racked in pain—but most of all, devoted to her home interests and loved ones. When she was well, she found joy in entertaining children, and sharing their innocent pleasures. All nature was to her a fascinating book; flowers were the poetry of her life.
Throughout her long illness of three and a half years she has shown a beautiful patience and fortitude that have been a benediction to those who so lavishly gave her loving care.
Two sisters, Mrs. Isabelle Foster and Miss Hattie Hodson, of Earlham, and three half sisters of Indiana and Ohio, a niece Mrs. Roy Fry, her husband and five children with many friends are left to mourn. A brother George died in 1920; a sister Mrs. Catherine Bilderback in 1921.
Funeral services Wednesday afternoon at the Methodist Church were conducted by Rev. B. W. McEldowney. Interment was at Earlham cemetery.
