Life began early for Sarah Jane Woolery on June 1, 1849 in Lawrence County, Indiana. When seven years of age, she came with her parents to Madison County, Iowa. It was here she completed her education in the public schools and grew to womanhood.

On April 23, 1874 she became the bride of I. V. Fairholm and on that date of this year it was their pleasure to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage. Six children came to brighten and bless the home of these people all of whom are living except one daughter, Lottie Slocum who obeyed the final summons September 7, 1921.

Mrs. Fairholm confessed her faith in Christ and obeyed Him in the ordinance of Christian baptism at the hand of her cousin Elder Henry Davis and united with the Early Chapel Church of Christ in Madison County on December 3, 1888.

She was always loyal to her church, supporting it faithfully in every department. She took great pride in maintaining her home which gave a cheerful welcome not only to her own family but to all who passed her way. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, taking great pleasure in the work and fellowship of that fraternity.

Early in the morning of May 8, 1924, the gates of the Eternal One opened and Mrs. Fairholm entered into her heavenly home at the age of 74 years, 11 months and 7 days. The last days were spent at the home of her daughter Mrs. C. R. Afflack at Earlham, Iowa.

She leaves in sorrow her devoted husband, two daughters Mrs. C. R. Afflack of Earlham, Iowa, and Mrs. Dale A. Callison, of Des Moines, Iowa, three sons Arthur L. of Anita, Iowa, and Frank L. and Harry R. of Winterset, Iowa, seventeen grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Irene Males of Earlham, Iowa, one brother Gilbert Woolery of Atlanta, Mo., together with other relatives and a large circle of friends.

Funeral services were held May 11 at two o’clock from the Massena Church of Christ conducted by a life-time friend H. T. Clampitt.

The esteem in which Mrs. Fairholm was held in her community was demonstrated by the large number of friends who gathered to pay the last tribute of respect and by the beautiful floral offerings which so fittingly express the message that words cannot convey.

Interment was made in the Massena Cemetery.

Death of Mrs. I. V. Fairholm

The funeral of Mrs. I.V. Fairholm, who died Thursday of last week at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C.R. The floral offerings were numerous and beautiful and mute tributes of the esteem in which the deceased was held by all who knew her.

Mrs. Fairholm had for some time suffered from a complication of troubles chief of which seemed to be heart trouble, and which seemed to be the immediate cause of her death. On April 23rd Mr. and Mrs. Fairholm celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary at their home in this city surrounded by eighty friend and relatives including their five living children. It was a most happy occasion, and while yet ill the deceased seemed to enter with buoyancy into the joys of the day. Many beautiful presents were give as mementos of the occasion.

As a friend and neighbor Mrs. Fairholm was sincere and steadfast and as a mother and wife typified all that is ideal and desirable. She was a member of the O.E.S. and the lodge members attested their love by being present in a body at the obsequies.

A vast concourse of friends from Madison county, their former home, mingled with the friends and in their sad loss the sorrowing husband and children have the condolence of the entire vicinity.
