James Lloyd Stanley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. A. Stanley, was born at the farm home six miles north of Earlham on May 18, 1908 and passed from this life March 24, 1924 at the age of 15 years, 10 months and 6 days.

All his life had been spent in this community, and here he had made a host of friends. The first seven years of his school life were spent in a public school, but for the past two years he had attended the public schools in Earlham, where this year he was a freshman in high school.

Clean in his habits, pure in heart and life, bright in his studies, all his teachers and classmates loved him for his sterling worth.

Lloyd’s was a kind, cheerful disposition, radiating happiness wherever he sent. His was the spirit of the true servant, for he was always thoughtful of everyone else. His character was expressed in the words of his parents as they said:

He was a dear, good, honest and obedient boy.

He was a member of the boys’ intermediate class of the Christian Bible School and here his bright and shining face won for him instant recognition.

We do not understand why one so young, so good, so promising had to be taken from our midst in the very morning of life, but in this sad hour we can trust our Heavenly Father, who “Knoweth all things best.”

Lloyd leaves to mourn his loss his parents, nine brothers, Frank, Chester, of Winterset, George, Cletus, Clifford, Viret, Ralph, Earl and Wayne, of Earlham, and four sisters, Mrs. Frank Clements and Mrs. Walter Cook, of Winterset, Mrs. Carl Cook, of Earlham and Mrs.
garry Huffman, of Des Moines.

Besides these there are other relatives and a host of friends and schoolmates who will miss him from his accustomed place.

Owing to the quarantine, only a short service was held at the grave conducted by Rev. Pringle, pastor of the Church of Christ at Earlham. Interment at Earlham. In all probability a memorial service will be held at a later date for this splendid lad.
