Page 3, Column 1THE PASSING OF MRS. HOOVER
Last Saturday a large concourse of our citizens attended the last sad rites in memory of one of Madison county's well known pioneers, Mrs. Jane Hoover, at the home of her daughter Mrs. A. B. Gray, and on which occasion Rev. Brewer, her pastor, delivered the sermon. The interment took place at King cemetery. Mrs. Hoover has practically spent her whole life in this vicinity from girlhood to old age, and past from this life into the eternal one, as she had always lived, with a consciousness that all was well. The obituary as read at the funeral is as follows:
Jane Ogburn was born in Madison county, Indiana, May 19th, 1848, and departed this life Feb. 1, 1912, after a brief illness of only five days, aged 63 years, 8 months and 12 days.
When five years of age, she removed with her parents to Madison county, Iowa.
She was united in marriage to Sullivan Stevens, January 28, 1864, To this union were born four children, one son and three daughters: Amelia F., Van E., Viola M., and Minnie V., all of whom survive her. When only 26 years of age she was left a widow with the four small children to maintain.
On February 14, 1893, she was united in marriage to Israel Hoover who was called away January 27, 1911.
At an early age she professed her faith in her Master and united with the Christian Union church and later joined the Methodist church to be in the church with her children. She was a faithful member, ever willing to do what she was able for the church. She trusted in her Savior and found Him a pleasant help in time of trouble. She had often remarked that she was ready to go when the Lord called her.
