James Edward Combs, 71, passed away Tuesday, June 10, 2014 from pancreatic cancer at Kavanagh on 56th St. in Des Moines surrounded by his loving family.
Jim was born January 10, 1943 to Charles and Rose (Fanzoi) Combs in Detroit, MI. He served in the United States Marine Corps. He retired after 35 years of loyal service from the U.S. Postal Service. Jim enjoyed gardening, reading and music. He proudly celebrated 35 years of sobriety through AA.
Jim is survived by his children, Tammy (Mike) Butler, Rick Combs and Scott (Michele) Combs; grandchildren, Jamie Brown and Chris Gillard and Tara, Madison and Kaitlyn Combs; great-grandchildren, Blake and Jayden Brown; sisters, Patricia (Bernard) Kean and Sharon Young; best friend, Ken Olsen; furry companion, Tiffany; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; his parents and his brothers, Joey and Bob.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Hamilton Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 15, 2014 at the funeral home.
