Louis E. McDonald - Winterset 
Jan. 13, 1913 - Aug. 29, 2014

Services for Louis Edmond McDonald of Winterset will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2014, at the First Christian Church in Winterset with Rev. Kevin Blader and Rev. Sue Blader officiating.

Louis Edmond McDonald was born January 13, 1913,  in Farmington, New Mexico, the son of Joseph Crosby McDonald and Monta Mahala (Hade Eggleston)  McDonald. He was raised on a homestead in  southeast Utah, moving with his family to Madison County at the age of ten.

He graduated from Patterson High School in 1932 and was a farmer in Madison and Adair Counties, farming 35 years on the family farm between Earlham and Winterset in Douglas Township. He married Harriet Isabel Sankey on December 24, 1934, in Grant City, Missouri.

Louis was a member of the Odd Fellows Madison Lodge No. 136 of Winterset for 52 years, in which he held several office positions including Past Noble Grand. He enjoyed playing Pitch and Canasta, and danced and bowled well into his 90s. Louis was always willing to help his friends and neighbors.

Louis died Friday, August 29, 2014, at the West Bridge Care and Rehabilitation Center in Winterset, Iowa. He was 101.
Louis is survived by his wife, Harriet of 79 years; a son, Ted McDonald of Winterset; two daughters, Rosa Lea Letz of Winterset, Jo Anne (John) McIntyre of Waukee; 8 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 9 great, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Hade; his infant son, Robert Louis; his five sisters, Mary Harpole, Mabel Richens, Margaret Spick, Thelma Spear, and Georgia Silverthorn; his son-in-law, Dwight Letz, and many friends.

Family will receive friends from 9 AM until service time on Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be given to his family for a future designation.
