WILLIAM "BILL" DEAN EARNEST FIELD
(September 17, 1936 - July 15, 2014)

William “Bill” Dean Earnest Field, 77, died Tuesday, July 15, 2014, and went into the presence of his Savior.

Mr. Field, son of Ancil and Nellie (Hart) Field, was born in Winterset, Iowa on September 17, 1936. He attended school in the Winterset school system. He graduated in 1955 and was awarded the first Krabel scholarship. He graduated from Iowa State University at Ames, Iowa with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering.

He was in the U.S. Army from 1959 to January 1962, serving in the 25th Infantry Division as a surveyor.

He started his working career with Quaker Oats in 1962 as an Industrial Engineer. Over the next 15 years he held various positions in five different locations and was selected as a member of the First President’s Award for outstanding contributions in manufacturing process improvements. In August 1977 he began his career with Altec Industries Inc. as operations manager of the St. Joseph facilities. He served as Vice President of Manufacturing and was instrumental in the creation of several new facilities: Elizabethtown, Ky.; Roanoke, Va.; and Burnsville, N.C.; and the modernization of several acquisitions in a 26 year career with the company.

He coached boy’s baseball for his three sons and was a faithful supporter of all their extra curricular activities. He was a member of the Brookdale Presbyterian Church of St. Joseph and served as deacon, elder and adult Sunday school teacher for many years. He was Finance Chairman and led two capital campaigns for church building. He attended the Grace Bible Community Church of Venice, Fla. after moving to Florida in 2001.

He married Marianne Helen Daft in Chicago, Ill., May 2, 1964.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, William Dean Field II; brothers, Willard Richard, Almon Lloyd; sisters, Madelyn Wald, Sara Hewitt, Virgie Allen; brother-in-laws, James Allen, Ed Wald and Dwight Baker.

Survivors: children, Stewart Douglas and wife Mariah (Arvizu), Ashville, N.C.; Derrick Richard Dustin and wife Stacey (Crouse) of Kansas City, Mo.; daughter-in-law, Lori (Wagner) Field of Medina, Ohio; grandchildren, Aaron, Gabby, Lauren, Cassie, Caleb, Bella, Noah, Stephanie, Ella, Nellie and Deacon; sister, Wilma Baker; and brother-in-law, Merle Hewitt.

Funeral service: 12:30 p.m. Saturday, July 26, 2014, at the Brookdale Presbyterian Church in St. Joseph.

Visitation: 5-8 p.m. Friday evening at the church.
Burial: Blakely Cemetery, Easton, Mo.
Memorials: Young Life of St. Joseph or Brookdale Presbyterian Church.
