Ronald James Housman passed away Friday, July 25, 2014, at the age of 70.
His body has been cremated and services will be scheduled at a later date. He will be buried at the cemetery at Montpelier in Patterson, Iowa.
Ron was born in Winterset on Feb. 8, 1944 to Floyd and Althea (Hathaway) Housman. Ron was a Navy veteran and served on the USS Mars (AFS-1) as a storekeeper from 1963 to 1967. After leaving the Navy he returned to Iowa and worked for ISU at the Animal Disease Control Laboratory in Ames, where he was an animal care taker. After leaving there, Ron had several jobs including barn restoration and farm gardening.
He was preceded in death by his father and his sister, Sondra Mapes.
He is survived by his mother, Althea Housman and brother, Terry (Teena) Housman of Winterset, as well as many other family members and friends.

Ronald James Housman, 70, of Winterset passed away on Friday, July 25, 2014.
Service will be held Saturday, Aug. 16, at the Ochiltree Funeral Home and After Care facility at 1:30 p.m. No reception is planned.
Ron was born in Winterset on Feb. 8, 1944, to Floyd and Althea (Hathaway) Housman. He graduated from Winterset High School in 1962. He is survived by his mother Althea Housman and brother Terry (Teena) Housman of Winterset; five nieces and nephews and their families.
