F. Vernon Tompkins, 99 of Waverly, Ohio, died July 3, 2014.
F. Vernon Tompkins was born Dec. 12, 1914, in Madison County, Iowa. He graduated from Winterset High School in 1932 and from the University of Idaho School of Mines in 1941 with a degree in geology. He worked to produce copper during World War II and spent years traveling and working in the southwestern United States. As a Mining Geologist he lived and worked in Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, Tennessee, Saudi Arabia and Pennsylvania. He married Leaha M. Molyneux in 1942.
He was preceded in death by his wife Leaha, his parents Ernest R. and Hattie B. Tompkins of Winterset; brother Edward, and sisters Iva Giddings, Mabel Klaaren and Ruth Tompkins.
He is survived by his children, Tom Tompkins of California, and Karen Tompkins Berney of Waverly, Ohio.
