THOMAS EUGENE LAUTERBACH, Van Meter, Iowa

Thomas Eugene Lauterbach, 74, died Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Memorial services were held Friday, July 11, at McCalley Funeral Home in Adel, with a visitation reception following at the Van Meter American Legion Hall in Van Meter. Tom was an organ donor and cremated per his wishes.

Tom was born Oct. 7, 1939, in Waukee, Iowa, the son of Claire and Hazel (Forret) Lauterbach and grew up on the farm north of Van Meter. He graduated from Van Meter High School in 1957 and attended Iowa State University.

He married Donna Edwards of Fontanelle, Iowa, on Aug. 31, 1963. Tom and Donna made their home and farmed in Van Meter their entire married life. He loved farming and raising cattle. He was deeply involved with his kids and their 4-H cattle projects and made many lifelong friends in the cattle industry. He was also a Boy Scout Leader, member of the Van Meter School board, the Lions Club, and the Booneville Co-op Board of Directors.

Tom is survived by his wife, Donna; children: Lance (Sherry) Lauterbach, Mike (Carri) Lauterbach, and Kris (Joe) Knowles; grandchildren: Cole and Clair Lauterbach and Nic, Lacey, and Nathan Lauterbach.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Bill.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial scholarship will be established with the Iowa Foundation For Agricultural Advancement to be given annually in Tom’s name at the Iowa State Fair.
