JOSEPH VERNON (BUD) MOORE, Winterset

Joseph Vernon Moore, known as Bud, was born in Madison County on March 15, 1941, to Raymond and Agnes (Monaghan) Moore. Bud passed from this world on May 22, 2014. 

Bud's mother taught in rural schools in Madison County for ten years. Bud attended kindergarten in her school in northeast Madison County during her final year of teaching. He subsequently attended another country school in northeast Madison County through the sixth grade, after which he attended Winterset Community Schools. Bud graduated from Winterset High School with the class of 1959. 

Bud spent his life in Madison County. He was engaged in farming until 1991, spending many of those years working with his father on the home farm. In the fall of 1991, Bud became employed at Maxie's Restaurant in West Des Moines. He remained there until his retirement in 2006. In December 2006, Bud moved to Winterset. He was a resident of Westbridge Care and Rehab at the time of his death. Bud was a life-long member of St. Patrick's Irish Settlement Parish. 

Bud was preceded in death by his father and mother, and one brother, Richard, who died in infancy. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Howard and Jan Moore, of Tucson, Arizona; niece Sarah, Honolulu, Hawaii; nephew, Patrick, and niece Ella, both of Tucson, Arizona, as well as numerous cousins. 

Funeral arrangements are being handled by McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset. Visitation will be held on May 26 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the rosary recited at 7:45 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated with the Rev. Dan Kirby officiating at St. Patrick's Irish Settlement Parish at 10:30 a.m. on May 27, 2014. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. 

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick's Irish Settlement Parish or Friends of the Winterset Public Library.
