LOREN MYERS, Winterset, Iowa

January 15, 1935 - May 3, 2014

Loren Myers, 79, of Winterset died Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 7 at the Macksburg United Methodist Church with burial to follow in the Moon Cemetery, rural Macksburg.

A visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 6 at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset, with family present to receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m.

Memorials may be directed to the Macksburg United Methodist Church.

Loren D. Myers was born in Peru, Iowa on January 15, 1935, the son of Arthur and Clara (Reis) Myers. He attended rural schools in Madison County and graduated from Winterset High School in the class of 1953.  Following high school, he served in the United States Army Signal Corps. His marriage to Frances Lehmer took place on January 9, 1957 and to this union two children were born. Frances died in 1978 and he later married Ardis Comer on November 23, 1979 at the Macksburg United Methodist Church.

He was an auctioneer and farmer most of his life. He was a Supervisor for Madison County and was a member of the Macksburg United Methodist Church. He also served 3 years on the Orient Macksburg School Board and served 5 years on the Madison County Conservation Board.

Loren loved the out of doors and enjoyed time spent hunting, trapping and fishing. He also enjoyed his dogs and raising puppies. He will be remembered as always being ready with a colorful joke or story.

He is survived by his wife, Ardis Myers of Winterset; a son, Steven (Catherine) Myers of Creston; a daughter, Diane (Jim) Smith of Afton; 4 step-daughters, Terri Lynn (Jim) Wetzel of Winterset, Christine (Lawrence) Meyer of Silverton, OR, Julie Allen of St. Charles, and Karen (Brian) Rudolf of Winterset; 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Loren was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Frances; 3 brothers, Harold Myers, Kenneth Myers, and Everett Myers; a sister, Lucille Putney; and a son-in-law, Terry Allen.
