Page 1Death of Sarah Jane Holt
Mrs. Sarah Jane Holt, the aged mother of Mrs. S. J. Westcot of this city, passed away on last Sunday afternoon, after a brief illness of about two weeks duration.
Sarah Jane Wasson was born October 7, 1834 at Hamburg, New York and removed with her father to Jackson county, Iowa, where she attended school and taught. In 1855 she removed with friends to Illinois, where she taught school until 1856, when she was married to David M. Holt, who died in December 1884 at Rockford, Illinois. To this union were born seven children, five of whom are still living.
Short services were conducted at the home on Monday by Rev. R. R. Marquis of the Presbyterian church, after which the remains were taken to her old home at Rockford, Illinois, accompanied by her daughter, Mrs. S. J. Westcot, and laid to rest by the side of those of her husband.
