Services for Wayne Kingery, 83, who passed away Friday, April 18, 2014 at Unity Point Iowa Methodist Medical Center in the presence of is extended family, will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 22 at the First United Methodist Church in Indianola with burial following in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Wayne was born in rural Madison County, Iowa on August 11, 1930. He attended country school walking uphill against the wind, both ways,before graduating from Patterson High School in 1949. Following graduation, he enlisted in the Marine Corps where he achieved the rank of Sergeant and served in the Korean Conflict.
Wayne worked several jobs during his career, the longest being for M&W Farm Service, First United Methodist Church and Menards.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jerri; daughters, Roxanne (Jim) Lewis of La Porte City, Laurey (Caroll) Oberender of Indianola, Janet (Jeff) Dirks of Urbandale; son, Marc (Scott Allred) Kingery of Chicago; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister and son Mike.
Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, April 21 at the First United Methodist Church where family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m.
