On the early morning of May 2d, O. W. Barker died after an illness of twenty-two months of paralysis, first on the left side from which he partly recovered. Five days before his death he suffered a second stroke from which he never rallied. He was nearly 79 years old and came to this county in 1854. He has five children living and 4 dead. His youngest daughter stayed with her parents through their sickness and death. No person could have been more tenderly cared for and all join in giving her great praise. Since his wife, Lacy died two years ago, he has longed to be with her.

The deceased was a pioneer member of the Baptist church and was one of the most active members in the church and Sunday school and was on the building committee and superintended the building of the house and his acts were looked over by five men, who declared him a faithful steward. For years he came a mile and did the janitor work and tolled the bell for many funerals, but at last it tolled for him. There was a large number of old settlers and friends at the funeral, showing the respect in which he was held. The latch string of his home was always out with a hearty welcome to all. He fought a good fight and a crown of glory awaits him.

Rev. Edwards of Osceola, preached the funeral on May 4th. Capt. Barker, his only living brother, got in from Colorado in time for the funeral, also Guy Barker, of Plover, Iowa. We mourn his loss for a season, but will join him in the bright hereafter.
