Almeda Wright was born in Wayne county, Ind., Nov. 27, 1839 and died at her home near Earlham, Iowa, April 28, 1901, aged 62 years, 7 months and 29 days. In 1861 she was married to Geo. Washington Curts with whom she lived forty years. To this most happy union was born eight children, two of whom have preceded her to that better land.

In 1862 she moved with her husband to Iowa, being among the oldest settlers of Madison county.

In middle life, when care was heavy and the duties and responsibilities of a mother were keenly felt, dawned upon her the fact of her need of divine assistance; and she with her husband, sought and found the Saviour precious to their souls, and together became members of the Baptist church. After moving to Dallas county and being without church fellowship, they gave their letters to the United Brethren of Pleasant Hill of whom she was a member to the date of her death. Her voice was often heard in public testimony of the goodness and mercy of God. She was ever ready to assist the needy, to attend the sick in their afflictions and comfort the sorrowing. She was a kind and affectionate mother, always meeting at the threshold the home return of her children with the same love of childhood days.

To her, death had no terror and to the queries of some of her loved ones concerning her future hopes said: “I fear not death, all is bright.” Thus quietly but triumphantly near the morning light had lifted the night shades of April 28, 1901, passed into a perfect day this blood-washed saint, surrounded by her loved husband, two sons and four daughters whom she leaves with many relatives and friends to mourn her loss.
