Mrs. Mary Betts, wife of D. A. Betts, died at her home in Dexter on Saturday, June 14, 1902, after an illness lasting but a few days. Deceased was well known here, having made this her home for several years. The funeral services were held in the Friends church here on last Sunday morning at eleven o’clock, conducted by Rev. J. W. Stribling, who had performed the marriage ceremony for her eighteen years before. The remains were laid at rest in the Earlham cemetery.

Mary Reynolds was born in Indiana August 26, 1857, and removed to Iowa in 1878. She was married to David A. Betts at Casey, Iowa, July 19, 1884. To this union four children were born, three boys and one girl, all of whom, with the husband, many relatives and friends, are left to mourn her taking away. Mrs. Betts was a consistent member of the Friends church, and a woman who always manifested a loving Christian spirit in her home life. Though sometimes compelled to meet the adverse winds of life, she did it cheerfully, always expressing her confidence in the better life to come.
