Cynthia Cook was born in Oswego county, New York on the 12th day of August, 1831, was married on April 17, 1853 to Asa Stannard, also a native of New York state and died at her home in Madison county, Iowa, Sept. 20, 1909, at the age of 78 years, 1 month and 8 days. Her husband preceded her in death by six years.

In the year 1855 the family removed to Iowa in which state they afterward had their home. She was the mother of eight children, seven of whom are now living: Carlon Asa, of this place; Phares Cook of Shell Rock, Iowa; Mrs. I. N. Dailey of Parkersburg; Lydia P., now the wife of M. Z. Bartlett and Ida A., now the wife of E. E. Tippey, both of Brown Co., S. D.; Calista E., now Mrs. Geo. Soash of Clarkfield, Minn.; and Melissa F., now Mrs. Wm. Soash of Shell Rock.

Her religious faith led her to become a member of the Church of Christ and she maintained until the end her faith in the promise of our savior that in the last hour they that have done good shall come forth to the resurrection of life.

The funeral services were held at Blair Chapel Friday, Sept. 24th, conducted by Rev. G. E. Nichols of Patterson.
