Powers Funeral Home, Creston, Iowa

Jim Rice, 88, of Creston, died Monday March 10, 2014 at his home in Creston. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014 at the Powers Funeral Home at the junction of Highways 25 and 34 in Creston. Pastor Dan Fields and Pastor Dave Tebbenkamp will officiate. Burial will be at the Murray Cemetery. Visitation with family receiving friends will be 9:30 a.m. until service time on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Memorials are to the First Baptist Church or the Alzheimer's Association. Online condolences may be made at www.powersfh.com.

James Allen Rice was born February 19, 1926 in rural Madison County, IA to Elsie Ethel (Rice) and Charles Levi Rice. He graduated from Creston High School in 1944. On January 19, 1947, Jim was united in marriage to Lois Emma Boswell in Creston. They lived in Hastings, Neb. and Ames, IA where Jim did auto body work. They moved to Creston in 1960, to Afton in 1971 and back to Creston in 2011 and owned and operated Jim's Body Shop for over 40 years. 

Survivors include his wife Lois Rice of Creston; four daughters: Renee (husband Ron) Squires of Colfax, IA.; Bethany Clark of Des Moines; Angi (husband Lee) Navin of Ankeny, IA.; Andrea (husband Pat) Cass of Fontanelle, IA.; one son: Curt (wife Lisa) Riceof Red Oak, IA.; ten grandchildren: Tanya Stuva, Adam Clark-Tan, Megan Farnsworth; Alec and Ian Medeiros, Alissa Rice, Hope and Grace Navin, Brandon and Adrienne Cass; three great-grandchildren: Christopher, Ashley, Katie and one great-great grandchild: Jade Myree. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a grandson: Christopher Miller, two brothers: Vernon and Todd Rice; five sisters: Mary Ricketts, Lilly Southerly, Maxine Ries, Betty Kinkennon and Maude Mayo.
