Thursday, March 19, 1903Uncle John Williams, a resident of this community for the past quarter of a century, died on last Wednesday, March 11, and his funeral was held in the Friends meeting house on last Friday morning. He had been in poor health for a number of years, and his weakened constitution could not withstand an attack of pneumonia.
He was an honorable man and splendid citizen, and was universally respected. His remains were laid away in Earlham cemetery.
John Williams was born in Orange county, Indiana, Dec. 28, 1817, where he spent the early years of his life. He was joined in marriage with Anna Lambdin Nov. 14, 1839. To this union were born thirteen children, six of whom with the wife and mother, preceded him to the better land. He removed with his family to Salem, Iowa in the fall of 1854, and to Lynnville, Jasper county, Iowa, in the spring of 1855, where he resided until 1879 when he moved to his present home near Earlham.
He was a birthright member of Friends, being converted in early manhood. He held with the Conservative Friends and lived a consistent Christian life. He was 85 years 2 months and 11 days old at the time of his death.
There were present at the funeral four sons, one daughter, and a large number of friends and distant relatives. Thus ends the life of a good and useful man. One that will be greatly missed in his home and in the church.
