Benona Robert Rankin was born July 19, 1848, at Rockhill, Belmont Co, Ohio and died at Truro, Iowa March 31, 1913, aged 64 years, 8 months and 14 days. In 1855, he with his father came west and settled in Des Moines County, Iowa, where he lived for twelve years. In 1867, he moved to Chariton county, Missouri, where he was united in marriage to Alverda Florence Likens, Jan 5, 1876. To them were born two sons, Benona Orville, who died March 8, 1895 and Frank Oliver, who has been near them all his life. In 1880, they moved to Peru, Iowa, and in 1896, they came to Truro, where they have since made their home.
He is survived by a loving wife and son, five loved grandchildren, three sisters and two brothers. He united with the M. E. church at Truro in 1896, and his life has been a true example of the observance of the golden rule. He was an earnest, conscientious man, a good neighbor and greatly beloved in his home. His sufferings were intense, but he was ever patient and cheerful. Thus a good man has gone home.
Funeral services were held at the M. E. church at Truro, conducted by the pastor, Rev. C. K. Corkhill who was assisted by Rev. D. Powell and Rev. S. C. Howe. The business men of Truro, attended in a body and took a beautiful floral offering. After the service, the body was laid to rest in the Peru cemetery.
