Mrs. D. L. Reid died at the hospital in Des Moines last Thursday from the effects of an operation performed the previous week. Just following the operation she seemed to improve and continued to improve until the Tuesday preceding her death, when a change for the worse took place and she failed steadily until the grim messenger claimed her for his own. Her devoted husband and children were with her when the end came, and in their deep sorrow have the sympathy of the entire community. The remains were brought here for burial and the funeral was held in the Presbyterian church Sunday afternoon at one o’clock, conducted by the pastor, Rev. McConnell. Interment was in Earlham cemetery.

Augusta B. Damon, daughter of Ebon and Leafy Damon, was born October 28, 1850, at Freedom, Maine. At the age of 14 the family moved to near Bradford, Ill., where the deceased taught school until the age of twenty when she was united in marriage, March 12, 1871, to David L. Reid of that place. To this union four children were born, Frank, Emma, Carrie and John, Frank dying at the age of six years. The family resided at Bradford until 1888, when they moved to Audubon county where they lived twelve years. After living a year in Lincoln, Neb., the family moved to a farm near Earlham where they have since made their home. She was aged 58 years, 4 months and 27 days at the time of her death.
