Miss Mary Anne Chesnutwood was born in Stark county, Ohio, May 7, 1844. She was married to Geo. W. Wright, March 21, 1861. To this union was born two children, Jno. A. and Geo. W. Mr. Wright, her first husband, died Jan. 27, 1863, at Corinth, Mississippi, while in the service of his country. She was again joined in marriage to Mr. G. M. Mark on Oct. 20, 1867. There was born to them three children—Melvin A., Levi E. and Chas. A.

The second son, Levi passed away, June 11, 1902, and was laid away in the cemetery at Earlham.

The four boys and the husband, with five sisters and three brothers mourn their loss. Mrs. Mark had been ailing for a few days but no one thought her to be seriously ill, until a few hours before her death, which occurred about 11 o’clock May 13, 1908.

Sister Mark united with the Methodist Episcopal church in 1861 under the ministry of Roy Badley. Mrs. Mark came to Iowa with her parents at the age of ten years, where, with the exception of two years, she has spent all of her days. She was a loving wife, a good neighbor and a devoted mother. She lived, planned, toiled and sacrificed for her boys.

Her field of greatest usefulness was her home. It was here that she was queen, and the impression made upon her boys will never be forgotten while they live.

The funeral services were held at the home, in the presence of a large number of friends and neighbors, conducted by her pastor, Jno. F. Gibson, and her body laid to rest in the cemetery at Earlham.
