Mrs. Anna McKenzie Dies

Mrs. Ralph McLees was summoned to Des Moines last week by the death of her mother, Mrs. Anna McKenzie. Mrs. McKenzie who was eighty years of age had been ill during the past eight weeks. She died Tuesday, September 12th and funeral services were held at the Carl White funeral home in Des Moines, Friday afternoon. The body was brought here, and the burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

Mrs. McKenzie who was the former Anna McLennan was born in Boosshire, Scotland, April 15, 1853. When nine years of age, she came with her parents to Lacona, where they lived for three years. They returned to Scotland but only resided there a year, and came back to Lacona where they made their home until in 1906. After that, the McKenzies resided here.

Her marriage to John McKenzie took place in 1877 and they were the parents of six children; W. L. of Monmouth, Illinois, Mrs. Mabel McLees of Winterset, Mrs. Kathryne Marshall, Mrs. Eugenia Stout, and Ethel McKenzie of Des Moines. Kenneth died in childhood. Besides her children she leaves one brother, John McLennan of Earlham and one sister, Mrs. Catherine Nutting of Milo and seven grandchildren.

Mrs. McKenzie was a member of the United Presbyterian church and took an active part in the work of the church, teaching a class in the Sabbath school until she was 76 years of age.
