Mrs. J. R. Rodman, daughter of James and Elizabeth Milligan, was born in Sullivan County, Indiana, March 10, 1837; she moved to Henderson County, Illinois, in 1853. Miss Milligan was married to Mr. J. R. Rodman in 1859. To this union eight children were born, six daughters, all of whom are living and two sons, one dying when quite young, and the other, three years ago.

Mrs. Rodman united with the M.E. church in 1875, and remained a stead fast member; always having a cheerful word, and one of encouragement. Her family of loved ones mourn the loss they have sustained in the translation but knowing the testimony of her life cannot wish her back on this cold earth. Four daughters live near Dixon, Neb., one near Earlham, Ia., and one near Tabor, Ia.

Mrs. Rodman was a kind loving wife and mother. During her illness she won the love of all who came to her bedside, by her patience and cheerfulness, notwithstanding the pain and suffering. She had a kind word and smile for everyone as long as she knew those around her and was anxious for their comfort.

Mrs. Rodman departed this life at her home in Dixon, Neb., Saturday morning March 14, 1908, at three o’clock after an illness of two weeks of bronchial pneumonia. For a number of years she had been afflicted with asthma, and so became an easy victim to the dreaded pneumonia. All the members of her family were summoned to her bedside; she passed away in the presence of her loved ones and a few friends, at the age of seventy one years and four days.

The funeral services took place at Worthington, Iowa, March 17, 1908, conducted by the pastor of the M.E. Church of Earlham, Iowa.
