George W. Lee Former Resident Died at Adel

George W. Lee, resident of Adel for 27 years and popular with all who knew him, passed away quite suddenly Sunday morning at the Lutheran hospital in Des Moines.

He was taken sick about two weeks ago with pneumonia and when his condition became serious was sent to the hospital. The pneumonia had apparently been conquered and he was stricken with a heart attack and in his weakened state was unable to rally.

George Wesley Lee, son of Samuel and Mary C. Lee, was born on August 28, 1879, in Madison county and passed away October 12, 1941, at the age of 62 years, one month and 14 days.

In 1901 he moved with his parents to Dallas county and on January 31, 1906, he was married to Mabel Couch and to them one son, Howard G. Lee, was born. For a number of years they lived on a farm near Earlham, but soon after the death of his wife, on May 17, 1914 he moved to Adel, where he has since resided, being employed nearly all of the time as a carpenter.

For many years he was prominent in the activities of Friendship lodge I.O.O.F. of Adel, and served as Noble Grand after filling most of the other offices of the organization.

His parents, two sisters, one brother and his wife have preceded him in death. The son, now agent for the Milwaukee Company at Fostoria, Iowa, together with one sister, Mrs. Evert McKibben, survive him. There are two nieces, Mrs. W. H. Brown of Zearing and Mrs. Charles Price of Earlham, some more distant relatives and a long list of friends.

Burial was in the Lee family lot in the McKibben cemetery near Earlham, where the full ritualistic burial service of the Odd Fellows lodge was carried out.
