Janet Aldridge, 72, of Patterson passed away suddenly on Monday, Feb. 24, 2014, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston.

A service will be held on Saturday, March 1, at 2 p.m. at Merle Hay Funeral Home (4400 Merle Hay Rd. in Des Moines). Family will greet guests at 12 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Hospice in Johnston or to The Animal Rescue League.

Janet was born in Lisbon, Iowa, on Aug. 17, 1941, to Harold and Virginia Johnson. Throughout her life, she worked various jobs and raised her family. Janet enjoyed going to flee markets, listening to Elvis, gardening, baking and crocheting. She had a love for pets and was known for her willingness to help others in need.

Janet is survived by her children, Joanne (Fred) Sirdoreus and Jerry (Elvira) Hotz; grandchildren, Bonni B. Moyer and Thomas J. Hotz and two great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Van Aldridge; daughters, Janice B. Moyer and Julie and Jeanne Aldridge; her parents; two sisters and a brother.
