Robert Allen, 86 of Afton, died Wednesday February 19, 2014 at the Clarke County Hospital in Osceola. No services will be held at this time. Powers Funeral Home in Afton 612 North Dodge is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be left under the obituary category ofwww.powersfh.com.

Robert Alvin Allen was born September 1, 1927 in Madison County, Iowa to Richard EarlAllen and Esther Estelle McMichael. He attended the Smedley School and grew up in Conger, Iowa and also attended the Martensdale High School.
Robert served in the U.S. Army from 1947 and was honorably discharged in 1949.

On January 30, 1950 he was united in marriage to Barbara Jean Phillips in West Des Moines. They lived in Martensdale until 2005 when they moved to Winterset until moving to Afton in 2012.

Robert worked for the Firestone plant for 12 years, Northern Propane 2 years, Standard Oil Bulk Plant for 12 year and the Des Moines Post office for 15 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Lions Club in Martensdale, where he served as Secretary/Treasurer and also was a member of the Legion Post #0716 in St. Marys.

Survivors include his wife Barbara J. Allen of Afton; one daughter Sandra (husband Merrill) Cornelison of Lorimor; 7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren and 12 step-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Esther Allen, four brothers, Ernie, Clarence, Glen and Richard Allen; two sisters Faye Schumaker and Mary Povich; one son Bobbie Allen and one grandson Robert Allen.
