Earlham Echo
Earlham, Iowa
April 11, 1912

Died, at her home on April 3, Mrs. Almeda R. Wroe in the eightieth year of her age.

She was one of twelve children of Thomas and Mary Rhode who all lived to be grown up. She was born in Warren Co., Indiana in the year 1832, the family moving to Salem, Iowa in 1848.

In 1858 she was married to Richard Wroe. They came immediately to the then new prairie country of Madison County to make themselves a home and shared with others of that early day the hardships incident to pioneer life.

Mrs. Wroe had been a widow 19 years and much loneliness had been her portion. Her cheerful smile and kindness to all classes regardless of rank or condition coupled with hospitality and strict uprightness endeared her to all.

“Aunt Mead”, as she was called by almost everyone, will be greatly missed. A loneliness has settled down around the neat little cottage now deserted, and as the spring calls for the tulips and other flowers which have bloomed in the well kept yard her memory will be cherished by her many friends.

She retained her mental faculties brightly and clearly almost to the last for one of her age. She said she could find nothing in her way as death seemed approaching but felt unworthy and hope hung on the merits of her Redeamer.
