Thursday, June 25, 1931MOTHER OF MRS. CLYDE DAVIS DIES AT KEWANEE
Mrs. Rachael Matthews, of Des Moines, mother of Mrs. Clyde Davis, passed away last Thursday at St. Francis hospital in Kewanee, Ill., following a serious illness of several days. The body was brought to Earlham where funeral services were conducted at the Church of Christ Sunday afternoon by Dr. Chas. Medbury, of Des Moines. Interment was in Earlham Cemetery.
Mrs. Matthews has been employed as saleslady by a manufacturing concern for many years, traveling through the Middlewest and California. She was well known in Earlham. Though in ill health for nearly a year, she did not surrender to the disease until just a short time before her death.
Rachael Dial was born in the state of Ohio, March 1, 1858, and when a young girl came to Illinois with her parents and settled in Galesburg whereon March 1, 1876, she was united in marriage with Edward B. Matthews. Several years later they moved to Iowa and for the past 50 years Mrs. Matthews has made her home in the vicinity of Des Moines.
The deceased is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Cora Chase, of Los Angeles, Mrs. Hattie Davis of Earlham, Iowa; by one grandchild, Winifred Finnigan, of Cleveland, Ohio; by two great-grandchildren and by two brothers, M. G. Dial, San Fernando, Calif., and G. A. Dial, of Long Beach, Calif. Her husband, her parents and three sisters preceded her in death. Both daughters were with her at the time of her passing.
