Gary Grout, 62, of Winterset, died Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at the Winterset Care Center North.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held from 2 to 4 p.m., Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset, where his family will be present to receive friends during this time.
Memorials may be directed to the Winterset Elementary School Library.
Gary Wayne Grout was born in Winterset, Iowa on February 7, 1951, the son of Loren and Lois (Handley) Grout. He grew up in Lorimor, graduated from East Union High School in 1969 and went on to attend college at Iowa State University.
During his working career, Gary worked with several car dealerships including George White in Ames and Reed Motors in Winterset. He also worked for John Deere and the Winterset Schools.
Gary was a Mason and enjoyed sports, especially NASCAR racing. Gary was a very good mechanic and loved to work on cars. He was also very good at solving computer repair issues and loved to mushroom hunt.
He is survived by his mother, Lois Grout of Winterset; three children, Wendy (Joe) Waterbury of Clive, Charlie (Kelsey) Grout of Norwalk, and Thomas Grout of Indianola; two sisters, Sharon (Ron) Berdine of Earlham and Gwynn Zeisler of Urbandale; and five grandchildren, Hannah, Whitney, Alyssa, Thomas and Avary.
Gary was preceded in death by his father.
