WILLA BOYD (WEIS)

Willa Boyd (Weis), 90, of Creston, died Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at the Greater Regional Hospice Home in Creston.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 30, 2013 at the St. Edwards Catholic Church in Afton . Father Ken Halbur will officiate.

Burial will be at Winterset Cemetery in Winterset.

Open visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, with family receiving friends 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, and a 7 p.m. Rosary at the Powers Funeral Home 612 N. Dodge Street in Afton.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to St. Malachy School. Online condolences can be given at www.powersfh.com. 

Willa Boyd, daughter of Royce Carlton and Eva Jeannette (Latham) Thompson was born September 8, 1923 in rural Shannon City, Ia. Willa graduated from Arispe Consolidated School in 1941 and later graduated from Creston Junior College.

Willa was united in marriage to J. Clair Boyd on September 3, 1956 in Albert Lea, Minn. They settled in the Winterset area. She began working as a clerk for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. Willa continued her 32 year career with them while also living in Waterloo and Des Moines before retiring in 1983. Her husband Clair died in November of 1990.

On April 3, 1997 Willa was united in marriage to George F. Weis at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Creston. They settled in Creston, enjoying many winters in Texas. Willa was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church in Afton. She enjoyed traveling and camping and was an avid reader.

Willa is survived by her husband George Weis; four step-daughters, Ann (husband Phil) Killinger of Carson, IA, Jane (husband John) Kovarik of Gladstone, MO, Jean Johnson of Des Moines, Joan (husband Tom) Whalen of Media, PA; three step-sons, Jim (wife Carol) Weis of FL, John (wife Monica) Weis of Creston, Jerry (wife Tanya) Weis of Creston; three sisters-in-law, Klina Thompson of Creston, Marcella Bandfield of Auburn, and Arcie Thompson of Reno, NV; brother-in-law, Maurice (wife Lorraine) Weis of Tucson, AZ; three nieces, Rayma (husband Tim) Frank of Afton, Linda (husband Corky) Forbes of Lake Oswego, OR and Kris (husband Steve) Westfall of Modesto, CA; four nephews, Mike (husband Carol) Penkert of Pike, NH, Mark Penkert of Meyers Flat, CA, Richard (wife LaVone) Thompson of Modesto, CA and Randy Thompson of Modesto, CA; 17 step-grandchildren and 12 step-great-grandchildren.

Willa was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband J. Clair Boyd in 1990; a sister Eva Jeannette Penkert; two brothers, John "Jack" Thompson and Keith Thompson; brother-in-law, Raymond Penkert;two nieces, Cathy Thompson and Michelle Penkert.
