Mr. James M. Brown, son of Thomas and Mary Brown was born in Preble County, Ohio March 4, 1832, and departed this life April 13, 1922, being 90 years, 1 month and 9 days old. He moved with his parents when 3 years of age to Nome County, Indiana, and again at 17 years of age moved with them to Menard County, Ill. While living in this place he married Miss Anna E. In 1900, at the age of 68 he moved to Earlham, where he and his beloved companion have spent the autumn of life together, awaiting the summons of the Heavenly Father.
On March 2, 1875 Mr. Brown united with the Presbyterian Church in Earlham and has been a loyal member and faithful supporter ever since. Only two weeks ago he was again re-elected to the eldership for a period of three years, even though the Church knew they would not see his face again at their meeting until his spirit had gone to the Master.
Mr. Brown leaves to mourn his loss his beloved and aged wife, who has shared with him the struggles and triumphs of more than a half century. There are also one son and three daughters living, Mrs. Jennie Harrison, of Redfield, Mrs. Clara Compton, of Omaha, Nebr., Mr. Milo Brown, of Earlham, and Mrs. Lenna Marks, of Earlham. Three children have preceded their father to the further shore, Mrs. Etta Knudson in 1912, Elbridge Lee in 1873 and Charles in 1907. He leaves fourteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
