Charles M. Hyskell, 97 year old retired newspaper man and magazine writer, died Thursday at a Portland hospital after undergoing surgery.
Mr. Hyskell resided in Oswego. He was a native of Winterset, Iowa, and published his own newspaper in Burlington, Iowa, before coming to Portland in 1904.
Mr. Hyskell was a writer for the Oregon Journal for many years and served as an officer of the old Portland Press Club. he also was a frequent contributor to Fortune, Sunset and American magazines prior to his retirement several years ago.
He is survived by three children, Edward R. of Santa Maria, Calif., Thomas F., Seattle, Wash., and Elizabeth R. of Laguna Beach, Calif.
