Roland, the eldest child of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Schalkle, who was taken to Mercy hospital last week for an operation, passed away Monday afternoon. The remains were brought here and the funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at the church. Rev. Connor of Indianola, conducted the services and interment was made at Montpelier cemetery.

Roland Russell Shacklee, son of Ralph and Etta Shacklee, was born Aug. 4, 1916 at Patterson and died March 27, 1922, at the age of five years, after several weeks’ illness, at Mercy hospital, Des Moines.

There are left to mourn his loss, besides his parents, a little brother, Lyle Rodney and a little sister, Adda Glee; also his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jesse Salisbury and Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Shacklee, all of Patterson.

Funeral services were conducted by C. H. Conner at the M.E. church in Patterson, on March 29th. Burial at Montpelier cemetery.
