Frank M. Ray died Saturday at the Lutheran hospital in Des Moines. Funeral services were held at the Elm Grove church on Monday and burial in the Winterset cemetery. The deceased was one of the promising young men of the community and his death at 35 is deeply deplored. His health began to fail about seven years ago and last fall he was forced to close out his farming operations and devote his remaining energies to the task of regaining his health. A sketch of Mr. Ray’s life will be found in this paper.

Frank M. Ray, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. L. S. Ray, was born in Scott township, Jan. 3, 1887. He departed this life at the Iowa Lutheran hospital in Des Moines Feb. 11, 1922, aged 35 years 1 month and 8 days.

At an early age, he moved with his parents to a farm in South township where he grew to manhood. He was converted at the age of 18 during the last revival meetings held under the direction of Rev. W. W. Williams in the old Elm Grove church. He associated himself with this church and was a faithful member during the remainder of his life. He was always anxious to cooperate in any way he could for the good of his fellowmen. He thought of others before he did of himself. As a boy and man, he was honorable and painstaking.

On June 26, 1911, he was united in marriage to Nellie Crete Gray, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Gray of Ohio township. After his marriage, he and his wife moved to a farm, where he resumed to pursuit chosen as his life work. About seven years ago, his health began to fail, and during the last two years, he failed rapidly. At times he was bedfast, but after a temporary recovery, would resume his labors. His spirit was undaunted and he was determined not to give up his work. He felt hopeful that he would conquer his ailments and reach a final recovery. His friends were hopeful, also.

His work interested him and he enjoyed it. As a worker, he was always willing. This characterized him from boyhood. He was never a complainer. It is a pleasure to bear witness to what he was, to commend his virtues and to point to him as an example. Everything that medical skill and loving hands could do was done to prolong his life, but to no avail.

He leaves to mourn his loss a lonely wife, who has always been most faithful and devoted; his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. L. S. Ray; two brothers: Fred J. and Carl G.; two sisters, Jennie L. and Beulah H., all of this county, besides other near and dear relatives and innumerable friends.
