Merl E. Thornburg, 76, of Jacksonville, Ark., died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013.

A memorial service was held Monday, Sept. 16, at St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church with Deacon Mike Alberson officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Arkansas Hospice (14 Perkstone Circle North, Little Rock AR 72116).

Merl E. Thornburg was born March 1, 1937, in Madison County, Iowa, to Ray and Marie Thornburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Roy, Dean and Wayne Thornburg; and one son-in-law, Jason Hobbs.

He is survived by Jo Ann Thornburg; daughters, Janie Smith of Cabot, Ark., and Jolene Hobbs of Sherwood, Ark.; one granddaughter; sisters, Darlene Faux, Evelyn Hitchcock and Wanda Bloodgood; and one brother, Lester Thornburg.
