Gerald True Orr was born in Walnut township, Madison county, September 16, 1897. Here he grew to young manhood and lived his entire life, except two years, which he lived in St. Paul, Minn., where he was engaged in business. His last sickness came very sudden and unexpectedly. He had been home with his parents in St. Paul, where he spent his Christmas vacation and returned to his work in Winterset, and after a few days, was taken sick. He was at once placed in the Winterset hospital, where he underwent a serious operation from which he never recovered and passed away on Jan. 13th, at the age of 24 years, 3 months and 27 days.

Gerald was an ambitious, lovable boy, making many friends wherever he went. On Thursday evening, he realized his serious condition and asked the nurse to call a minister that he might talk to him and that he might be baptized. This was done and after talking and praying with his pastor, he expressed his willingness to die and that he was happy and ready to go.

He leaves to mourn his death his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Orr, of St. Paul, Minn.; an aged grandfather, George Orr; a host of relatives and innumerable friends. Funeral services were held from the Methodist church on Sunday afternoon by Rev. Jackson Giddens, pastor, and the mortal remains were laid to rest in Rock City cemetery.
